A {Stressful} Sound Bytes of the Week

This week has been a big roller coaster ride and I’ve been in the front seat.

I’ll keep it simple and just give you a summary of the ups and downs…

On Monday I decided to tackle the issue of after school care for E. I thought this would be easy, hire some nice college girl to care for him and we are good to go. Alas it’s not that easy. Those college girls charge at least $10 and hour, which means we’d be paying them at least $700 a month to watch our kid for a maximum of two hours a day. So much for our financial reprieve.

Then I found out we are exactly one hundredth of a mile short from being on the bus route for school…must be exactly 2 miles and we are 1.91. Anger  was building.

Called local daycares about after school programs, none would pick up from our elementary. One even suggested my FIVE year old son take a cab. What?

Luckily, like a light in the darkness I found one that had a cancellation in our area that would transport him. Smiles all around, until I looked at the price and then I almost started crying again.

On top of all this we are trying deal with E’s behavior issues, plan a trip to go scatter my dad’s ashes {which I found out is during a huge project B2 needs to do for work}, and looking at houses {which has turned into an arguing match of epic proportions}.

I must have some hidden need to torture myself, because why would anyone pile this much stuff on their plate.

All I want to do is curl up in the fetal position, suck my thumb and mumble to myself.

However, there are some silver linings amidst the chaos, like the fact that E has had a GREAT week at school, or the fact that I called our elementary school and there is a 90 percent chance we might get into their after school program, and I’m leaving this weekend to spend time with her and her here.

Sorry to be such a Debbie Downer, because after reading all that you are probably filled with stress too. So let’s destress a bit and get to this week’s Sound Bytes of the Week.

3. “I love you to the moon and back.”
YES!!! I love you too little man. More than anything in the world.

2. “G is my brother and he will never give up on me.”
I’m an only child so watch this bond grow between my two boys makes my heart soar.

1.”You brighten my life with your friendship, so I thought it was only fair to return the favor I am sending you a box full of SUNSHINE. Hope it brightens your day.”
There are moments when you realize just how lucky you are have certain people in your life. Oh, yes friend I’m blessed to have you. Who would have known that a gym membership could create such a lasting friendship. Luv You.

So how was your week? What did you hear?

As I write this, the sunshine is peeking through the horizon and I’m breathing a little easier. It also helps to have such close friends and family in my corner. Without all of you the roller coaster might have derailed. So thank you.

Have a wonderful weekend, and stay cool. I’m off to Chicago to see my peeps. Ciao!

  1. Oh, Brook, what a week! I’m sorry for the pile-up of things and will be praying a solution emerges (quickly!) that fits into your budget without too much trouble. I hope you have a fabulous and relaxing weekend with Hy and Melissa (how could you not, though, with all that pooled awesomeness?!)
