The Road HOME: BPM

We hop in the car, ready to drive to parts unknown, looking for adventure and some time alone.

The engine growls rumbling my seat and I’m reminded of E’s comment about needing a “bum force field”. Smiling I grab the camera preparing myself to capture the vibrant fall colors that will soon be whizzing past my window.

We make our way to the interstate following the cars ahead, trusting in their guidance along this journey. Their speed is slow and we pass some waving as we go by. We follow the other cars as they veer off the smooth pavement of the highway onto the back roads of corn country.

I’m spellbound by the beauty that greets us at every curve and hill. I’m anxious to see what will come next  - a bright red barn, cows running in open fields and fiery colors everywhere. As we travel further and further into the countryside, the curves and hills increase and there are moments I clutch the armrest my knuckles white from holding on so tightly.

Glancing at my hubs in the driver’s seat he smiles back, “are you having fun,” he inquires. I nod my head, knowing by the glint in his eye that he’s having a ball, finally able to enjoy his gift with me by his side.

We continue on our adventure and with every glance out the window I’m constantly reminded of the beauty that lies in my home state.

HOME.

Where the heart is.

A cliché needlepointed on every pillow from here to the Mississippi river.

But it doesn’t make it any less true.

And my heart is here in this moment, drinking in

The beauty

The love

The joy

Even amid the curves, bumps and mind numbing speed, I’m safe with him in the driver’s seat.

We may not have a map, but we will follow the footsteps of those who have gone before us as we navigate the roads of life TOGETHER, leading us HOME.
