Five Minute Friday {On Saturday}: Real

On Fridays around these parts we stop, drop, and write.

For fun, for love of the sound of words, for play, for delight, for joy and celebration at the art of communication.

For only five short, bold, beautiful minutes. Unscripted and unedited. We just write without worrying if it’s just right or not. Won’t you join us?
Today’s topic. REAL

Ready….GO…

My biggest pet peeve has to be FAKE people.

The “yes” man.

The girlfriend who only like baseball because her boyfriend does.

The blogger who doesn’t let it all hang out.

I think the reason this is one of my pet peeves is because I’m EXACTLY the opposite. Like completely on the other side of spectrum.

I’m an open book, and as my blog has stated MANY times I like to “keep it real”.

You ask and I’ll tell {you better be prepared for the answer} sometimes I might tell a little too much according to my mother. Like lurid details of child birth and breast feeding or puking exploits by the children. And I have no qualms telling you how I feel, mad, sad, excited, euphorically happy, annoyed, irritated…You name it. I’ll tell it.

The real me shines in everything I say and do. I know at the end of the night that I was true to myself. I’m not a conformist, I’m an individual. Whether it goes against the grain or not. I let my freak flag fly.

On numerous occasions this has been know to bite me in the ass. I’ve disclosed too much and I’ve let down my guard, let my weaknesses show and someone uses it against me. Or I’ve disclosed too much too fast and scared the crap out of people.

But even on those nightmarish occasions I’m still happy that I made the decision to be real and not hide behind a persona or conform to someone else’s expectations.

In the end if we are true to ourselves we can build longer lasting and deeper relationships. Ones that are solid and true. Because if someone can accept the real you, then that’s someone who will stick around. Come hell or highwater.

And that’s who I want on my team.

  1. >I like you so much because you are real. There's not much guess work with you because you let others read the pages of your story. And that's refreshing. You are wonderful!

  2. >Even though I only know you through reading your blog I feel as if I do know you if that makes sense.

Never change – you are brilliant!

  3. >You go girl! I'm so glad I came across your blog, wow, must have been almost a year ago now. More than being true to others you are true to yourself and that counts for a lot. A lot of people could learn a thing or two from you. You are an amazing person even through your faults (which really are not as bad as you make them out to be, we all have bad days that is just part of life).
Keep being who you are and never change, you are fabulous, and we love you x x x x
