TGIF is Gone {Day 12}

TGIF!!! 🍻

Typically we have dinner every Friday night with our friends. We hang out at Sam’s Pizza and chat over beers. Bill will play Rhinestone Cowboy on the jukebox (no joke) and we will laugh so hard we cry. Tonight none of that happened. We texted beer pics and said “hey I miss you” and “hey I miss you too”

Today I was craving a vanilla sweet cream cold brew from Starbucks. All I wanted was my caffeinated beverage while I walked around Target aimlessly, buying things I didn’t need from the dollar spot and yelling at my kids in the toy aisle because they were taking too long picking out LEGOS. I wanted to linger in the clothing aisle to peruse the new spring fashions.

Running in Iowa City

But I can’t do that either. 😞

I promise that when things get back to normal I won’t take the everyday moments for granted. I will say, “I get to run errands. Instead of “I have to”. I will cherish each moment no matter how small.

Enjoy the little things for one day you may look back and realize they were big things.

Physical Distancing {Day 11}

Virtual happy hours and virtual coffee dates make everything better. Connection is the key during social distancing. In fact, many have stopped referring to it as such and instead call it physical distancing. Because the last thing we want to do right now is to stop being social.

Humans crave connection. Without it, our lizard brains can dry up into dust. We become hollow and empty.

The introverts in the room are like “Nah we’re good” but by day 30 even they might be craving connection.

I’m lucky to have such a strong support group and I worry about others who don’t.

As of right now, the US is topping the charts in outbreaks and deaths. It’s devastating. The videos out of New York will make grown men weep.

It’s been only 11 days and it feels like an eternity. But as one day ends we move forward to a new beginning.

It Isn’t in My Blood {Day 10}

Ten fucking days we’ve been held hostage by a pandemic that shows no mercy, and a deluded leader who thinks he can control everything.

It’s hard to feel out of control. To trust that others will have the compassion to make the right choices on your behalf.

I seek solace in the little things I can control.

Like my day-to-day activities – working out, continuing to work, playing with the kids, cooking dinner, and tucking the kids in at night.

Tucking kids into bed

I’m clinging to any sense of normalcy. Almost to the point where sometimes I forget. And it feels like a scene from the Hunger Games or the Handmaids Tale then I wake up and realize life is imitating art in the scariest way imaginable (minus zombies thank God)

Fuck zombies ain’t nobody got time for that.

All this to say another day is done. Time to rest and dream of better days ahead.

Help me, it’s like the walls are caving in
Sometimes I feel like giving up
No medicine is strong enough
Someone help me
I’m crawling in my skin

Sometimes I feel like giving up
But I just can’t
It isn’t in my blood
