Fit Fashion: Mom Style Files {#MSFILES}

Happy June? Can it really be June already?

The new month means a new Mom Style Files mission, and this month we actually give you permission to wear yoga pants.

Don’t get too excited though because you have to wear them doing yoga…{ahem}, because this month your mission is Fit Fashion.

As we embark on this month’s mission let’s begin by taking an informal poll.

Raise your hand if you wear an oversized t-shirt and a ratty pair of sweat pants to the gym?

That was me over a year ago. Post baby and not feeling very athletic.

Frumpy Kickboxing

Shapeless, t-shirts…the bigger the better and a pair of shorts with I-O-W-A across the butt, might have been stylish in 1990, but workout wear has come a long way from the Jane Fonda leotard and the grunge t-shirt.

Once I started working out and training for triathlons I quickly learned that not only did I not feel very athletic in my grubby t-shirt and baggy shorts, but they weren’t conducive to training.

My oversized cotton t-shirt soon weighed an extra 5 pounds when drown in sweat, and my baggy shorts chaffed me during spin class. OUCH!

So, it was time to finally dress the part and look like an actual athlete.

I had a rude awakening when I entered our local Scheels and picked up name brand athletic wear…it’s EXPENSIVE.

So, I quickly beat a path to my local Target.

Years ago, I had purchased some C9 sport bras, and they were still in great shape, so I figured I’d check ‘em out again.

I wasn’t disappointed.

Dri Fit shirts, compression shorts, supportive tanks with built in bras, athletic undies and socks, and of course their sturdy sports bras.

Here’s a sample of what I picked up last winter, during their sale.

I’ve also learned that January is one of the best times to buy athletic gear, since retailers are trying to cash-in on those New Years resolutions.

Every once in a while I’ll hit up our Nike outlet at the outlet mall, or find some deals on the sales rack at Scheels. I’ve also heard Old Navy has great cute workout gear, but I haven’t found the time to check it out yet. However, the good ‘ol bullseye, TARGET, is where I purchase most of my everyday sweat gear. Where else can you buy diapers, dinner fixin’s and sports bra all in one place?

Now it’s your turn.

Ditch the ‘90’s grunge t-shirt and get fit in style. You’ll be surprised, because when you dress the part of the athlete you might just become one.

Are you ready to take our June challenge? Gear up in your cutest fit fashions, snap a photo, post it to Instagram and tag it #MSFILES. We may feature you in this month’s mission accomplished file.

  1. I feel more motivated when I look good in the gym. Baggy clothes don’t do anything but make me feel frumpy. I like your picks and I need to get started with kickboxing!
