Fearful or Fearless?

Fear. We’ve all experienced it at one time or another.

As a little girl, I was scared of snakes, worms, the dark, clowns, etc. As I’ve gotten older some these fears have evolved {not snakes and clowns} and new deeper fears have taken root.
The biggest for me is the fear of being loved and loving someone in return. It poses the greatest risk and the biggest reward, don’t ya know. It takes a leap of faith, and not to sound negative, but I’ve been hurt a lot. Not just with boyfriends, but friends or family, any relationship where you “put yourself out there” is risky and scary and exciting and fulfilling…a weird dichotomy all jumbled together.
I think when you love someone the biggest fear, at least for me is that the love might end. That at some point in time this person will look at you and say “oh, hell no that’s not what I signed up for.” And they will split…Poof, gone.
Whether rational or irrational, fear can envelope you. Change you. Make you question yourself.
How you face it is up to you.
Instinct dictates you have two choices – fight or flight.
Fight for love? Seems like a no brainer.
Flight for independence or growth? Hmmm, perhaps.
Sometimes you need to just give into the the fear, let it guide you on your journey. You have the opportunity to make a choice you can be fearful or fearless.
I pick fearless.

  1. >Mmm. I've been wrestling with being slave to a spirit of fear lately … and for what? I've already been set free from it. Good words tonight, my friend. Well, more good words from you after your pinnacle moment post.

  2. >What a thoughtful, reflective and honest post– thank you. I, too, am struggling with fear– and right now, in my life, it's in the driver's seat, I hate to say. But at least I can admit it and I'm working on it in therapy. It is hard, deep work and its a process, but hopefully I will get there! Now I'm going to check out your other story and link.
