A Quarantined Virtual Coffee

Ugh… good morning afternoon all.

So, if we were really meeting for coffee today we would have to do it via Skype, because our house has been hit with the f-word. FLU!!!

Bleck..who the hell gets the flu in July…really. I started feeling sick at 3 a.m. on Monday morning…and B2 was sick by later that afternoon. Unfortunately, I initially thought it was food poisoning and went to work, but after an hour (and touching everything in the office) I realized I had a fever, so I made a break for it. A big sorry to everyone I came in contact with.

The worst part of the whole situation is I was supposed to head to Bettendorf to see my new niece and my mom. But the last thing I want to do is give this to anyone else, so I’ll be quarantined at the house instead. So sad….it will probably be next summer before I see my mom again. Grrrr…..

I also had to break the news to E that will be postponing our trip to the water park until next week. At which time a full blown crying jag started. Complete with the deep breathes and quivering voice. It broke my heart.

Of course once the boys were home last night the show must go on. So I drug my sorry ass around the kitchen trying to make a simple dinner so the boys’ tummies would be full. While listening to B2 wretch in the downstairs bathroom (sorry TMI). At that point I broke down. It’s times like these that I wish we had family here to help. They could take the boys, so we wouldn’t get them sick and they could get us another gallon of milk so I don’t have do it with a puke bucket riding shot gun. Just little things that I think some people take for granted I would literally give my right arm for. I’m just sayin’.

So good thing this is virtual coffee, because I will still get to make the rounds over at Amy’s. I can’t wait…I could use a laugh, or two, or three…

*No pics today…thought I would spare you a photo of me with my head in a bucket.

BTW – I started my own Linky. The Sound Bytes of the Week will be featured each Friday. It is your opportunity to share those hilarious comments your kids say or your hubby or even the stranger on the street. If you could show me the love that would be great….thanks.

  1. >Yuck for the flu 🙁 That is no fun!! Hope your little one isn't too upset about the waterpark and you can go again soon!

And I do hope the flu leaves your house quickly. Thanks for coffee!

  2. >Oh, my! I'm so sorry you are sick…. and hope no one at work gets it from you touching every thing. You know at my work we talk about you behind your back when people do that….. 😉 Of course, kudos to you for trying to work your way through thinking it was food poisoning and all. And if I lived close to you, I'd leave some packages of easy food for y'all on your doorstep… wearing a hazmat suit, of course.

  3. >Who does get the flu in July? I am so very sorry for you, especially since you are riding this out on your own. I have my own kind of funny story about when I was home alone with my son, me sick as a dog but I'll save that for another time. Sorry you missed the visit with your mom too. But you never know, you may get another chance and until then TAKE AS GOOD CARE OF YOURSELF as you possibly can. Remember that nobody cares if your bathroom is clean or the floor has been vacuumed in a month. And hopefully we'll see you back here next Tuesday.

  4. >My youngest daughter woke up this morning with a runny nose and a fever and I totally agree with you — it's just extra wretched to be sick in the summer. I hope you feel better soon!

And I love the idea of you Sound Bytes Fridays! Fun!

  5. >Oh my goodness– the flu sounds just awful! I'm so sorry to hear it– I hope its a quick bug and that you all are feeling better very soon. It is awful when you feel sick and still have to take care of the little ones (I always think of those Irish moms with 6+ kids and wonder how they do it), and that you had to run out for milk with your son. (I always try to keep extra milk in those milk boxes that don't have to be refrigerated– like Parmalat– for times when I run out). Sorry you missed your Mom and new niece. I love your idea for the Sound Bytes and your linky button is adorable!! I have to go check it out. Hope you're feeling better soon!!
