FIVE!

E YOU ARE FIVE!!!

There was a time when I thought our lives were full, and then we had you.

Immediately our lives changed. Our house was louder, there were toys scattered about and there were messes. Our house was finally alive.

You were our first, our number one. It was hard, and we had no clue what we were doing. Your dad and I even took classes so we would know how to change your diaper, and swaddle you.

And now five years later our house is still buzzing with energy.

This birthday is bittersweet. I knew it would come, but I’m not prepared. As much as I want you to grow and explore, I still want you to be my little guy.

When you were tiny you had to have two stories, a song and be rocked until your eyelids drooped. Now we read and chat. You tell me about your day, but there’s no song and no rocking.

Things are changing and it’s taking all my willpower not to hold on tightly and keep you from getting older.

When you were little you were gregarious and loved to meet new people. Lately you are cautious testing the waters before you commit to a situation {just like your mama}.

These past five years I have watched you become your own person. Always, bucking the trend not doing what everyone else does. You wear what you want when you want. PJs outside? Sure. It’s blue day, but you want to wear green. No problem. Batman mask to the mall? Of course. You march to your own drum and you always have. I admire that about you.

You can recite all the species of dinosaurs and name all the superheroes that ever existed. I find it humorous that you can remember all these things and yet you can’t tell me what you had for lunch.

Telling stories and playing make believe are your forte and I can see you becoming a writer or an actor someday.

Above all your daddy and I are truly blessed that your little spirit chose us, and we love you so VERY much.

We are looking forward to more adventures.
