Planted in My Heart: Bigger Picture Moment

I’m trudging through the week, like a hiker through the woods. It’s been a rough journey. One filled with deadlines, training schedules, birthday planning and obligations.

There are moments I stumble; weary from my trek. I’ve let people down, forgot goodbye kisses and disappointed others and myself. I’ve said “One more minute” one too many times.

I keep walking one foot in front of the other, because in the distance I can see salvation, the silhouette of a tree. It’s tall and sturdy with roots firmly planted deep into the earth. It’s branches look as if they are reaching toward me. Guiding and beckoning me to rest in its shelter.

I continue on.

Stumble trip.

Stumble trip.

Stumble FALL.

I’m a crumpled heap on the ground. I can go no further. I can’t handle one more demand, one more “mama snacks” one more “we need it today or else.” As I raise my head to the sky to beg for salvation, I can see the branches on the tree have moved closer and upon further inspection I realize they are his hands.

The one who picks me up when I fall, whose strong arms hold me close and whose voice soothes my nerves. The one who is strong when I am not, who takes over the pick up and drop offs, the doctor appointments and the birthday gift buying and the little details that I would have missed.

He is my shelter from the storm of life and his roots are planted in my heart.

Bigger Picture Blogs is ringing in April with the theme: PLANT. Whether we’re celebrating the arrival of spring in the evidence of plants all around us, placing something in the ground so it can grow, planting ideas, or planting ourselves, in April we will spend time ruminating on the growth of great things from small beginnings.

Live. Love. Capture. Encourage.
